We are back online!

The National Management Committee (NAMANCOM) of EILER would like to thank all of our partners, friends and members for patiently waiting for us to resume online presence. Problems with the previous website had reached the point wherein a complete overhaul was in order, and so we did the inevitable.

Needless to say, this replacement is different in many ways, both in form and in content. Formwise, we have redesigned the site with simplicity and functionality in mind. Contentwise, we have converted it into a dynamic community website, complete with blogs and “forums” (or fora, for those who are not comfortable with modern, usability-obsessed English). As such, it will encourage feedback and writeup contributions from our all our partners and friends here and abroad, especially the trade unions.

Those who would like to register as site members may have to wait after submitting the online application form, for verification purposes. We also reserve the right to remove defamatory statements that target our organization, the work that we do, or our partners and network. As of now, our rather limited webhosting account obliges us to confine community participation to commenting and blogging, but not uploading of attachments or images. Expansion towards more space-hogging functions might become viable on demand in the future, and as our constrained finances allow.

We are also proud to have been able to uphold our pet advocacy of Free, Open-Source Software (FOSS) in the rebuilding of our website. As those of you who are tech-savvy may notice, we deployed Drupal 6 (more specifically, 6.4) for this project, the most stable and advanced Content-Management System (CMS) in the web programming world. Along with promoting the use of Linux operating systems (our office uses several “distros”), it is our heartfelt wish that other people who visit our site may be encouraged to shift to FOSS and thus contribute to the loosening of corporate monopoly in softwares.

Lastly, we beg your patience still for our site's skimpy offering of new content. We will be uploading more material in the coming days as our work progresses, after having made the decision to prevent further delay by launching this site as soon as possible. Please feel free to send in your comments, thank you!
